It leaves the page alone
Pennwald never rewrites the article or wraps words in markup. Links keep navigating, buttons keep working, the site behaves exactly as it did. Lookups happen on the words — not on anything you might want to click.
PENNWALDRead the whole web, not just your library.
Click any word on any page — an article, a blog, a newsletter, documentation — and get what it means there: its gender and article, its plural, the infinitive if it is a verb, and an example sentence. Save it, and it joins the words you practise.

- 1
Install it
One click from the Chrome Web Store. It asks for access to pennwald.com and nothing else.
- 2
Connect your account
You sign in here, on the real site. The extension has no login form and never sees your password — it picks the session up by itself.
- 3
Read anything
Press Alt+P on any page, or turn it on for a site you read often so every article there opens ready.
It reads the word, not your browsing
Only the word you click or the passage you select, plus the sentence around it. Not the pages you visit, not your history, not the rest of the page. Written down in the privacy policy, not just promised here.
It reaches what a server cannot
Articles behind a login or a paywall you already pay for are invisible to any tool that fetches pages from a server. The extension sees exactly what you see.
Around 80 languages
German, French, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese through to Polish, Vietnamese, Turkish, Romanian and Hawaiian — anything written in the Latin alphabet.
Free to try, properly
10 lookups a day are free with an account. No card. Enough to read with it for a while and decide for yourself.
The subscription lifts the limit and adds what Pennwald is built around keeping: saved words and practice, a library of books and articles that remembers your page, and a writing desk that corrects what you write. 5,99 € a month.
