By creating an account or using Pennwald, you agree to these terms. Please read them carefully.

1. The service

Pennwald is a language-learning tool that uses AI to correct what you write, suggest the target-language words you were reaching for, look up words and phrases in texts you provide, and answer questions about them. It also stores a library of reading material you add yourself. You are responsible for having the right to the material you upload; Pennwald is for your own private reading and does not republish or share it. We provide the service on an “as is” basis and may update or modify features at any time.

2. Account

You must provide a valid email address and be at least 16 years old to create an account. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity that occurs under your account.

3. Subscription and payment

There is a free tier. An account with no subscription can look up 10 words a day using the browser extension, with no card and for as long as you like. Saved words, the library, the reader and the writing desk are part of the subscription.
Pennwald offers a 7-day free trial of the subscription, followed by 5,99 €/month.
Your card is charged at the end of the trial. We email you a reminder a few days beforehand so the charge is never a surprise.
You can cancel any time before or after the trial ends. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — you keep access until then.
Payments are processed by Stripe. All prices are in euro (EUR) and inclusive of applicable taxes where required by law.
We do not offer refunds for partial billing periods, except where required by applicable law.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or automate access to the service.
Use the service to generate harmful, illegal, or abusive content.
Share your account with others or resell access to the service.

5. AI-generated content

Corrections and suggestions are generated by AI and may contain errors. They are provided for educational purposes only and should not be relied upon as authoritative grammar references. You are responsible for verifying important content.

6. Your content

You own the text you write or upload to Pennwald. By using the service, you grant us a limited licence to process that text for the sole purpose of producing the correction, lookup or answer you requested. We do not store it, do not claim ownership of it, and do not use it to train AI models.

7. Availability

We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We are not liable for temporary downtime caused by maintenance, infrastructure failures, or events outside our control.

8. Termination

You can delete your account at any time in Settings. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. Upon termination, your data will be deleted as described in our Privacy Policy.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Pennwald is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 3 months preceding the claim.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the operator resides, without regard to conflict of law provisions.

11. Changes

We may update these terms. If the changes are material, we will notify you by email at least 7 days before they take effect. Continued use after that date constitutes acceptance.
